You're kidding, right?
As I was listening to the radio the other day, I heard a dj say something about a new "virtual girlfriend" cell phone game being introduced for men in Hong Kong. Each virtual gf will interact with her guy differently, depending on how he treats her. She'll be extra nice to him when he buys her gifts and she'll even introduce him to her virtual friends as the game progresses. Oh, but just so the game seems more "real", the guy has to dish out real dollars to buy gifts and there's a penalty if he doesn't comply with the virtual gf's demands for flowers and rings (and there are many): she'll stop talking.
The dj went on to say that many girls want to rush out to buy cell phones that feature this game for their boyfriends. They think that this is a great idea because this will save themselves the hassle of "training" their bf's to do what they want them to do. In other words, they think their guys are going to be better bf's as a result of this game.
Me? I just don't get it. First of all, expensive gifts and flowers are nice, but is that all you want from a relationship? Is that what it means to have a good bf? Not in my world - in my world, that's called having a Sugar Daddy. Plus, if that IS your motive, do you really want your guy spending all his money on someone that doesn't really exist? Also, wouldn't it be nice if a guy did something romantic or thoughtful (note: romantic or thoughtful gifts are not always expensive and vice versa) because he wants to do it, not because he thinks it's the "right" thing to do?
I just don't get it...
And I feel bad for any single guys out there who think this is a good substitute for a real gf or that this will help them get a living, breathing girl. They're going to get exposed to one type of girl (very high maintenance) and think that we're all the same. They're going get get a false sense of what makes a relationship work and how they're supposed to communicate with a girl. The list goes on...
But maybe I'm over-analyzing. Maybe people just have nothing better to do and think that this is a good way to spend their time. Who knows. I just know I'm not going to get my bf one of these cell phones if such a product comes to Canada.
Anyway, check out this article if you want to read about it.
